When it rains...

We had a couple of little "incidents" with Aubrey this past weekend. When I was out shopping on Saturday, she got a little bump on the head. The first thing that David said to me when I got home and walked in the door was, "She bumped her head, but she is FINE!" I looked at her and was horrified to see a huge blue goose-egg on her forehead. I mean, it was HUGE! Of course I freaked out. She really was fine though. David said she tripped and fell against the vertical part of the window seal. That's exactly what it looks like -- a vertical blue line down her forehead. He took some pictures, and I was going to post them but I can't even look at them without wanting to cry for her, so I'm not going to share them. He said she didn't even cry long, and it looks much better now that the swelling has gone down. This was her first experience with a big goose-egg though (amazing that we've made it this long!) so it was just a little scary to see. It's probably a good thing I was gone when it happened because I would have wanted to take her to the ER! Haha.

The second "incident" was on Sunday. Aubrey was in her highchair eating lunch and being her usual picky self. I had fixed some English peas for her which she usually loves. She wasn't eating them very well though, and David was trying to get her to eat some more. I was over in the kitchen when he told me that she had a pea stuck up her nose. What?!?! Apparently David was being silly and trying to get her to eat a pea, and he put a pea right on the outside of her nostril. (Still not sure why -- haha!) Well, the next thing he knew she stuck her finger up her nose and pushed the pea way up. We could still see the pea, but just barely. I could not find that bulb/suction thing that we got in the hospital. David tired to get the pea out with tweezers, but he couldn't quite get it. Again, I was freaking out thinking that we were going to have to take our child to the ER to have a pea removed from her nose. Oh my gosh. Aubrey was perfectly calm through this whole ordeal and looked at us like we were crazy. I finally had the brilliant idea to rub downwards on the outside of her nose, and that moved the pea down enough to where we could get it out. Mommy to the rescue. Thank you very much. Haha.

I told David that he may have lost his Dad of the Year award after that weekend! It's ok; I lost mine a while back. Aubrey has never hurt herself (enough to leave a mark) while in his care before Saturday, so I think he's still doing pretty good :) We're now even since the finger incident happened while I was watching her. Aubrey survived the weekend though and seems no worse for the wear. Unfortunately, I'm sure this won't be the last goose-egg she gets though!

Carrie - you are so much nicer than me. Carl locked Evie in the car when she was 4 months old and she screamed until she finally went to sleep. Waiting for the police was the longest 15 minutes of my life. I was not exactly grace under pressure. Hope the rest of your week goes without incident.

Carrie still left Aubrey with me while she went to bunko, so I must be doing ok.

I would say you're doing a great job and I wouldn't even start keeping score! It may come back to bite Carrie! Remember Target?? Haha

I know the pea incident was not funny at the time, but that is hilarious!
