Adventures in House Showings

You know that little saying that says something about how cleaning your house with kids around is like brushing your teeth while eating oreos? Well, anyone who has children knows that it's true. I've learned that it's even more true and more frustrating when you're trying to get your house "show ready." I'm so thankful that we've had a lot of interest in our house, but what is so funny to me is that only ONE of our showings has been on a weekend. You know, when David would actually be home to help me get ready. I don't want to sound like my life is so hard and I have it so rough or anything (because I think we all know that's not the case), but trying to get the house looking show ready with three kids and no help is HARD. By the time I get the dogs in the garage and the kids in the car, I'm sweating and super frazzled and wanting to curse the lookers. Ha! Anyway, yesterday we had a late afternoon showing, and I had the brilliant idea to go ahead and get the kids' rooms looking good before I put them down for rest time. That way when I got them up, the upstairs would be done. Umm, dumb idea. Apparently, Jude decided that it would be a good day to go on the war path during his rest time.
In case you can't tell, that's his little book shelf turned over with books all over the floor.
And that would be his horse turned OVER. He took a chunk out of the wall when he pulled that little stunt. And those white pieces you see on the floor? That's a piece to his window blinds that he must have pulled down and then karate chopped into three pieces. I have no idea what came over him.... he's definitely not usually that destructive.

I wish I could just say "BOYS!" and leave it at that. But I can't blame this craziness on gender ;) This conversation took place between Aubrey and me yesterday (also while I was trying to get the house ready to show):

Aubrey: Mommy, I accidently just threw some toilet paper in the toilet.
Me: Umm, that's ok. That's what you do with toilet paper!
Aubrey: No, I mean I forgot what I was supposed to do with the toilet paper and I threw the whole roll into the toilet.

Say what?? That's right, it suddenly slipped my four year old's mind what you do with a roll of TP when you finish with it, and she just tossed the whole thing in the potty. By that point, it was time to just get the heck out of dodge, so I did what any woman in her right mind would do: I closed the toilet lid and let David take care of it when he got home ;)

So, yes, having our house on the market has been an adventure! We would appreciate prayers for a speedy sale! ;)

Oh dear! Did you lose it? I totally would have. Stress and kids come hand in hand but add outside stress too and look out. I am impressed you get all your kids to rest each day at the same time.

Carrie -- It never even occurred to me to set an alarm on my phone (probably because I don't carry my phone regularly), but what a GREAT idea!!! It would definitely take the 'panic-what-time-is-it-did-I-miss-the-hour-constantly-looking-at-the-clock' moments away! Thanks!
