Moving On Up

So, I should be writing my Week in Review post. But I'm skipping it this week (yes, I skipped it last week, too). Honestly, I just don't feel like writing it, so I'm not. Last week was good, but it consisted of a lot of laundry after my weekend away and house cleaning in preparation for Alaina's birthday party. There WAS one big thing that happened last week....... we transitioned Jude to a big boy bed!! We bought two twin beds for his room a while back, but we weren't in a big hurry to make the transition. He's been climbing out of his crib lately, so we knew the transition was imminent. And THEN he started jumping in his crib and ended up breaking one of the slats that holds the mattress up. So, we knew the transition needed to happen ASAP :) We got mattresses for his "big boy beds" last week, and we made the move on Friday night.

We went out to eat for dinner that night, and when we got home David took Jude's crib apart and set up the new beds. But of course nothing is easy, and that includes setting up your child's new beds at 9PM. There was a little problem with the mattresses fitting on the beds. The beds we got for Jude are antiques, so I guess they're not quite standard size? I'm not sure what the deal was, but I do know that this is what Jude's room looked like at 9:00 on Friday night:
Ughhh. We ended up having to move the beds out of his room for the night, and we just put the mattress on the floor so that he could get to sleep. Thankfully, Jude didn't care one bit, and he was super excited about sleeping on that mattress on the floor! :) David and I tucked him in and told him goodnight, and I had to snap a few quick pictures of my BIG boy!

I had no idea how to expect the night to go. I was SO pleasantly surprised that it went GREAT! Jude fussed once in the early morning, and I went to his room to check on him. He went back to sleep easily, and he's been doing fine ever since. David got the beds set up the next day (it just took a little rigging ;), so Jude is no longer sleeping on a mattress on the floor. His room is looking cute, and I'm going to post pictures of it soon. I still have a few little projects to get done in there before I share pictures :)

With the transition to the big boy bed, I think we've officially bid naps farewell. Jude napped less than half the time anyway before we moved him, but I don't think he's going to nap hardly at all anymore. When I've been putting him down for his rest time, I hear him get up and start playing as soon as I close his door. This is fine with me; we've never made it a rule that our kids have to stay in bed -- they just have to stay in their rooms. It's actually worked out really well for him to be in the big boy bed. Jude is a GREAT independent player -- he is completely content to play by himself in his room for a long stretch, so he is much happier during rest time now that he can get up and play than he was in his crib. And because he's not napping anymore, he's so tired by the time he goes to bed at night that he falls asleep really quickly.

So, that's where we are in the transition so far! I'm so thankful that it's been an easy one, and I hope that Jude continues to sleep well!
