Show Us Your Life: Office Edition

Welcome to our office! Just like all the other rooms in our house, our office is still a work in progress, but it is coming along nicely. Our office is one of the first rooms you see when you come in our front door, so we wanted to get it presentable as soon as possible. When you come into our entryway, our dining room is on the left and the office is on the right. Here are some BEFORE pictures:I actually like the color of the walls, but we were having bookshelves built in a dark wood, so we needed to paint the walls a lighter color so there would be some contrast. Normally I'm painting over light, neutral walls with darker, more saturated colors, but it was the opposite this time! Here is the office NOW with some changes we have made:We had a chandelier that we weren't using anywhere else, so we decided to hang it in the office:David already had this desk when we got married, but we never had anywhere to use it in our old house. I really like it and was glad to be able to use it when we moved. We also already had the rug, and I think it works nicely in this room. This chair was in the living room in our old house, but we decided to use it in the office in this house. These built-ins were already there. I like them, but I do NOT like the faux wood finish. We will be painting it one day, probably the same cream color as the rest of the trim. We will also arrange the stuff on the shelves a little nicer after it's painted. No point in doing that now, since we will have to take it all off to paint anyway. These bookshelves were our one huge project in this room, and we LOVE them. (In case you're wondering, we didn't build them ourselves - we had someone build them who knew what he was doing. I only wish we knew how to do that kind of thing!)We had these built literally the week after Jude was born, and David just kind of loaded them up with books, etc. It's on my list of things to do to get the shelves a little more de-cluttered. I think David is perfectly fine with them as is ;)The diaper boxes full of toys are an especially nice touch, huh? The shelves are adjustable, and we knew there was no point in even attempting to put shelves with books within reach of little hands for years, so for now, this is the space for Aubrey's stuff. We are going to get some nicer baskets to hold the toys when we find some that are the right size. Until then, we're working with what we have ;)I already have fabric that I'm going to have made into curtains for these windows. I love all the sunlight, but this room is on the front of our house, and it would be nice to have a little privacy at night. Also on MY list of things to get for the office at some point: A LAPTOP! Haha! So, that's our office! I definitely feel we have all of the major components in place in this room, it just needs a little decorating/accessorizing of shelves! :) Thanks for taking the time to look at my office. I'll share more pictures when we make more updates.

Absolutely a gorgeous office and so beautiful! I love the built-ins and the large windows! I am like you - I am always painting over our light color walls with a darker color - I like the warm, rich tones. :o)
