Home Tour: Kitchen Edition

Finally, I'm getting around to posting pictures of my kitchen! I figured I needed to go ahead and do this now, because, after the baby is born, who knows when my house will be clean again? Cleaning was one thing that kind of fell to the wayside after Aubrey was born, and I predict that will happen again when Jude gets here! Ha. You may remember several months ago, I tea stained my cabinets and promised to post pictures. Well, I guess we've just been a little busy since then! Better late than never though! Please note: the kitchen is still a work in progress. We have no window treatments yet, and that is on our list of things to do in the not too distant future.

Here is the kitchen before we moved in and did anything. (It's hard to tell in these pictures, but the floors are brick. The whole downstairs, except the master bedroom, has antique brick floors, and I really like them.)

Here is the kitchen now!The cabinets up close. I'm happy with the way they turned out.We spray painted the hinges and replaced the knobs, which I think made a HUGE difference.I love that all the appliances, except the dishwasher, are stainless. When the dishwasher claps out, we'll replace it with stainless too. I also love having double ovens! This little island is absurdly small, but it really is handy. One day, many many years from now, I want to gut the kitchen and hopefully a larger island will be incorporated :) Anyway, I decided to paint the island a dark brown instead of tea staining it to make it look more like a piece of furniture. I was happy with the way it turned out!The previous owners had a pot rack hanging over the island. They wanted to take it with them, which worked out fine since I'm not a pot rack fan anyway :) It did leave a bare chain hanging from the ceiling though, so we added this candelabra -- love it!I love the chandelier in the eat-in area of the kitchen. Here is the eat-in part of the kitchen. Our table is perfectly fine for now, but I'm glad that the room is big enough for a much larger table down the road when we have more people in our family :)One of my favorite things about this house is the huge windows. I'll love them even more when we get curtains for them. The previous homeowners did leave their curtain rods, and I'm happy they did because I love them. This is a little built-in desk in the kitchen. We actually don't really use it, but it is nice for storage. So, that's our kitchen! It's really nothing fancy, but it works for us, and we like it. I would like to make some changes down the road, but for now, it's just great! :)

I love your kitchen. The tea staining came out great! I would be so scared at night time with those wide open windows. I would prob see things and think it was someone staring back. HA! LOL!

Very pretty! I LOVE the large windows and the little island is great for appetizers when entertaining. I like the light fixtures too. We are in dire need of a new fixture - the previous owners bought a super contemporary one but that does not match the style of the house at all. I am trying to get motivated to paint my upstairs - every room needs it. Ahhh. Carl does not paint. HA!!!

Haha! Meghan, I thought the big, open windows would bother me, but they really don't. They face our backyard which is totally fenced, so it's actually very private unless someone climbs into our backyard :)

Ok, I may steal your idea of hanging a chandelier where the pot rack was. We have empty hooks right now because I removed a wine glass holder the previous owners had hanging over the sink in the kitchen. Love your idea!
