shots, shots, and more shots

Today was a day of shots! Aubrey and I both got vaccines today. She was due for her one year shots, but we've had to put them off since she's been sick and on antibiotics. Today we finally got around to getting them. She got FIVE shots today, including the flu shot. She had to get two shots in one leg, one in the other leg, and one shot in each arm. Poor, poor baby. It was awful. She was covered in bandaids and tears by the time we left. I hate seeing her get shots. Thankfully, my mom is sweet enough to go with me for moral support when Aubrey gets her vaccines. Usually I stand out in the hall and my mom stays in the room with her. I know that's awful, but I just can't handle it! The first time Aubrey got her shots I was literally in tears, and my mom told me to go out of the room. Well, today as I stood in the hall I just felt awful that I wasn't in there with her. In the past Aubrey has been so young that she really didn't know/care whether I was in there or not. But today I just felt like she needed her mommy in the room with her, so I sucked it up and went to be with her while she got them. Yeah, you can go ahead and give me the Mother of the Year Award now. Haha.

Aubrey wasn't the only one getting stuck today though. I also had to get vaccinated. I found out when I was pregnant with Aubrey that I'm not immune to chicken pox. My mom is absolutely flabbergasted by this because I had the chicken pox when I was young. And according to her, it wasn't a really light case. But blood tests don't lie, and immune I am not. Apparently, it's not that unheard of to have the chicken pox and lose your immunity down the road. Since chicken pox can be very dangerous and even life-threatening to an unborn baby, my OBGYN highly recommended that I get the vaccine before getting pregnant again. I really didn't want to bother with it and honestly, David and I discussed me not even getting it. I said since most people get the vaccine now, what are the odds that I would be exposed to the chicken pox while I was pregnant. Literally that very same day, my mom told us about a little boy who goes to church with us who has the chicken pox! David and I took that as a sign that I should indeed get vaccinated. I think it would be very irresponsible of me to possibly put my future unborn baby (Lord willing!) at risk just because I didn't want to get the shot. Sadly, I have to get two installments of the shot. I got the first one today, and I'll get the next one in four weeks. It really wasn't bad at all though. Nothing compared to what my poor baby Aubrey had to go through :(

Thankfully, Aubrey seems perfectly fine after her rough day. I gave her a warm bath tonight to help her little arms and legs feel better. Having her legs all shot up hasn't slowed her down one bit, I can assure you! :o) And of course, I wouldn't have it any other way...

Aww...shots are no fun! I just have to tell you this about the chicken pox vax. I never had chicken pox as a kid even though I was exposed to it. So, I got the vax as a teenager. When we started thinking about babies, I got tested and I was not immune so I got another round of the vax. When I got preggo last year, a couple of my siblings got chicken pox. I freaked and had the dr. test to make sure I was immune. And I wasn't. I've had the vaccine rounds TWO times and I'm still not immune. How crazy is that?! It stresses me out if I think about it too much. My dr. doesn't think that the vax is "zero-converting" with my immune system. Whatever that means...that it's not working!

Anyway, I hope that all goes well for you!!! Give Aubrey kisses for me!

I'm glad Aubrey's doing well after such a sore day! Emily's getting her first set of shots next week... Not sure how I'll handle it! Wish me luck!! :)

I had the chicken pox vaccine earlier this year because some neighborhood kids came down with it. The first shot wasn't so bad, but the second one was terrible. Worse than a tetanus shot - my arm reacted to it (the Dr. said my body was already fighting the second installment. yay.), and I had a big sore goose egg for three days. And I felt awful! I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but just be sure you have a couple of "down" days after you get the second vaccine.

My doctor said to be sure and wait three months after the second vaccine before even trying to get pregnant. Even the vaccine isn't safe for unborn babies!
