Standing Ovation

We reached an exciting milestone tonight... at church no less! After we picked Aubrey up from the nursery, we went into the fellowship hall (where we have church on Sunday nights) and we were standing around talking. Aubrey was crawling around on the floor, and my dad was watching her. All of the sudden my mom told me to look at Aubrey. She was standing by herself!! She had gone from sitting on the floor to standing without pulling up on anything! The embarrassing part was that my family got a little... uh, excited. They literally starting CLAPPING and YELLING "YAY Aubrey!!" There were quite a few people left in the fellowship hall and they all turned to see what the fuss was about. So of course, lots of people started clapping and yelling after that. David and I were MORTIFIED! We were so excited that Aubrey is such a big girl, but neither of us really likes to be the center of attention. It was hilarious though. I was laughing so hard I was almost crying -- I'm sure people thought I was a poor first time mom crying over her baby growing up. Haha! The funny thing is that Aubrey LOVES to be the center of attention. She just grinned and laughed like she was so proud of herself. After standing by herself very well for a while, she gracefully bent her knees and sat back down -- no losing her balance at all! The rest of the night people kept coming up to me and asking what Aubrey had done to get everyone so excited. I told them she had done several back handsprings :o)

It was really sweet to see everyone so excited about our baby's milestones. We're thankful for such a sweet family and church family -- even if it is a little embarrassing sometimes ;o) Aubrey stood up several more times before we even left church, so hopefully we'll get it on video soon. She seems to be moving towards walking very quickly -- David thinks she may even take a few steps by the end of the week. Crazy possibility! My baby is growing up so fast... I'm kind of sad. I can feel the baby bug coming on -- I need another baby! Haha! Don't worry (or get excited)... we're not planning on that anytime soon. It is something that I've been thinking about lately though, since Aubrey is getting so big. David says I'm crazy :o)

Congrats to Aubrey on her big milestone!! :)

I wanted to tell you Carrie (even though we don't really know each other) that my little Emily, who was due on Sept 6th, arrived 9 days early on August 28th!! She weighed 7lbs 1oz and is absolutely amazing!!! I enjoyed re-reading your posts from Aubrey's first two weeks to see the similarities/differences between our experiences.. I'm also having a very hard time with breastfeeding, although we are making great progress!! Emily lost a lot of weight and became dehydrated at the hospital but at our first doctor's visit she was up 6.5oz and doing much better!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she'll be back to birth weight by our next appointment on Wednesday. Anyways, time is already flying by (what, my baby's 10 days old??) so I can only image what it must be like for you!! Looking forward to reading about Aubrey's first birthday!

p.s. I'm all for ordering a cute bday cake!! Your party is going to be so sweet! :)

At the time that she stood up, I wasn't thinking about where we were. Just so excited!! If parents can't mortify you, then who can? Haha! There were several non-family members who were just as excited, too. At least this way, you'll be more likely to remember it!

Nathalie -- Congratulations!! I've been thinking about you because I knew you were due in September. Emily is beautiful!! I know you are so in love with her! I'm sorry you've been having trouble with breastfeeding -- I remember how hard the first several weeks are! No fun, but it really does get easier! (I'm sure everyone is telling you that, and you're probably tired of hearing it!) You should start a blog! :) I would love to follow! Keep me posted on how things are going! You can just leave a comment or email me at caw1123@hotmail.com. (If you have time -- I know newborns require a lot of time!) Best wishes! :o)
