6 Week Checkups

Alaina and I both had our 6 week checkups the past few days (is it shocking to anyone else that it's already been 6 weeks??), so I wanted to record them while they're still fresh on my mind. I'll do my Week in Review post tomorrow.

I went to the doctor for my 6 week postpartum checkup on Friday. I had actually double booked and scheduled my appointment and Alaina's for the same time, so I rescheduled her's. Ditz! Anyway, my appointment went well. I was SO nervous about what my blood pressure would be, so I was pleasantly surprised when it was good in spite of being nervous. I just so wanted to be able to go off the medicine, and my doctor said I could! I'm no longer taking it, and I'm supposed to monitor my blood pressure for 2 weeks. If it stays in the normal range, I am in the clear. If not, I'll have to go back on the medicine. So far.... well, I haven't checked it yet. Guess I should probably do a better job of doing that. I figured it would take a little while for the medicine to get out of my system anyway, and I've only been off of it for a couple of days. But my doctor said I'm all back to normal... I can't wait to start working out and hopefully loose this baby weight! :) One bummer was that I didn't have my annual while I was there. I'm not sure why... I've always had my yearly "physical" at my 6 week visit and then not had to go back for a year. But apparently they do things differently now. I have to go back in August for my yearly. I love my doctor and everything, but I was really hoping to not see her again for a year. Haha!

Now onto Alaina. She had her checkup this morning, and she got a really good report too! She weighs 9 pounds, 10 ounces and is 21 1/2 inches. I was hoping she would be 10 pounds, but she is in the 50th percentile for height and weight, and our pediatrician said her growth was wonderful, so I'm happy :) Alaina is doing everything she should be doing at this age, and she's just a sweet, healthy baby. I have really cut back on the amount of dairy I eat, and it has seemed to help with Alaina's fussiness. I talked to the doctor about that, and she said I should keep doing what I'm doing. I do still eat some dairy, and Alaina has never had any symptoms other than fussiness (like bloody stools), so the doctor said it's unlikely that she has a dairy allergy, it probably just makes her gassy. That's exactly what I had been thinking, too. The doctor said Alaina still has an "immature gut" and that she will more than likely be able to tolerate more in 4-6 weeks. So, I will just keep doing what I'm doing in the meantime -- I'm mostly just avoiding straight up milk and tons of cheese because that seems to be what bothers her most. Oh, and as long as I'm recording things about Alaina, she slept from 9:30-5 the other night!! She actually didn't even wake up at 5, but I was worried about her, so I went to check on her. Then I was a bit uncomfortable, so I went ahead and fed her :) She's growing up so quickly!

I'm so thankful that Alaina and I both got good reports from our doctors! Thank the Lord for good health!

Yeah for good reports! I still get uncomfortable on the nights that Henry sleeps good especially if we have had some bad nights previously in the week. Our bodies get used to these little eaters and want to keep up with the demand. Please email me your address so Kathy can mail you the beautiful bracelet you won. My email is JenniferNiemeyer@comcast.net

I had to cut back on dairy with my daughter, too but found out I could still have lactose free things without it bothering you. Lactaid makes gat milk and ice cream!
