The Stomach Bug of 2011

So, as if our Friday night New Year's Eve tornado drama wasn't enough for one weekend, Aubrey got sick Saturday night/Sunday morning. Not just a cold or cough kind of sick. Throwing up sick. I woke up sometime in the night Saturday night and David was gone. I got up to go look for him, and I noticed that lights were on and the washing machine was going. I was thinking, "Surely he didn't get up and start doing laundry because he couldn't sleep??" Right about that time, he came downstairs, and when I asked him what the heck was going on, he told me that Aubrey had thrown up. He then proceeded to give me all the gory details. I am one of those annoying people who can't see, smell, or hear about throw up without feeling like I'm going to be sick myself. I kind of have a throw up phobia. I haven't thrown up myself in years and I really think it's because I hate it so much, I just don't allow myself to throw up. Ha! (Gosh, after this post and my last one, yall are probably thinking it sounds like poor David has three kids! Haha.)

Anyway, because of my intense hatred of throw up, and because David is pretty much the best husband/daddy EVER, he handled all of the middle of the night stomach sickness. Yeah, how awesome is that?! One of these days, the children are going to get sick when he's not home, and I don't know what I'll do. I'd like to think I would rise to the occasion.

Aubrey ended up being sick off and on from 2-6. Poor, poor baby! When she finally quit getting sick, she went back to sleep and slept until 11:15, at which point I went and woke her up because I was worried that if she didn't drink something soon, she would get dehydrated. We fed her the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) the rest of the day and only gave her clear fluids, and she was fine. We all stayed home from church to keep our germs to ourselves, and David was able to take two naps after his long night.

I was SO worried about Jude catching the stomach bug, but he never did. It's been 4 days now, and none of the rest of us have gotten sick, so I don't know if it was something Aubrey ate, or if we just did a good job of washing our hands and disinfecting! Either way, I'm SO thankful we didn't all pass that around. I'm praying that nastiness stays far away from our house the rest of the year!

girl, i am right there with you! i HATE throw up....i have a phobia of it, too. i seriously cannot handle it...at all. when i was teaching, it was my worst fear that kids would get sick in class. i would literally have to go home after someone threw up because i just couldn't get past it - haha! glad aubrey is feeling better and praying that no one else gets the dreaded bug!

ahh, not so much the frontier woman now are you?

This post made me feel better about things, though. Peyton may cook his own dinner once a week, but he has NO CLUE how to work the washing machine. Ha! I think we can still be friends even though you're all Martha Stewart about your hothouse cucumbers.

Just have to tell this part. The first time I went up there I (of course) didn't know what was going on. She had been fussing a little bit but stopped when I walked in her room and told me that her hands were wet. I couldn't figure out what she was talking about until I got to her and sure enough, her hands were all wet. I asked if she had poo-poo, and she told me no. I could smell it (you know that distinctive smell) but couldn't think what it was until I turned on the light.

I won't go into any more details, but I just thought it was cute that she didn't know how to tell me except to say that her hands were wet.

Oh, SD. The only reason I know what hothouse cucumbers are is because I watch a lot of Food Network. Not very Martha Stewart-ish, huh? Haha! If I was really a pioneer woman, I would be cloth diapering my child and growing cucumbers in my backyard. Both things that I will NEVER do.

YUCK! Glad Aubrey is better and you have kept everyone else well. I think David deserves husband of the year! He's a good one. I am not sure that I could even figure out how to use a cloth diaper or grow my own cucumber. I can barely keep up with monitoring our supply of Pampers. Carl picked some up today since we were down to 1. OOPS!
