To tell or not to tell...

David and I have [finally] started to talk seriously about what to name our baby boy. I think we've decided on a first name. For some reason, I'm having a hard time committing this time. I think part of the reason is that I'm worried about what other people are going to say when we announce a name. On one hand, I don't really care. I feel like anyone with any manners will say they like it. I will probably be able to tell if they're just being nice, but does it honestly matter? Not really. It's our baby and our choice. On the other hand, I'm such a people pleaser, and it would totally hurt my feeling and make me second guess our decision if someone obviously didn't like the name.

David thinks it might be fun to wait until the baby is born to tell the name. I can kind of see the benefits to doing this. After he is born, most people won't say anything about the name. And if they do, I'll be recovering from giving birth and probably won't hear them. However, I'm terrible at keeping secrets. I don't really like surprises. I feel like keeping it a secret would build it up too much. It might be fun though... I go back and forth! I never thought keeping the name a secret is something I would even consider. My guess is that we will end up telling. I just can't imagine not saying his name out loud in public for 17 more weeks. Ahhh, what should we do?!

I think you should keep it a suprise. But if you do decide to tell don't worry about what others will say. They prob would have opinions with any name you pick out. You never can please everyone. It should be what you want.

We kept Evie's name a secret because we did not want everyone's opinion. However, some people spent the entire 20 weeks suggesting the perfect name. It's kinda fun to keep it a secret since we all know it's a boy. Gives me something to look forward to but it's up to you!

I say go with the "one hand" that doesn't care... ;) But then you know how I am.

OK, here's my opinion. It's your baby! I love knowing names when moms are expecting. I have tons of friends who have named their child something I would not consider for my own child, but it's your child, not mine. So why should I have an opinion about it since it isn't my child. My best friend and her husband kept the names of both of their girls a secret. With her second pregnancy we bugged her so much we got her to give us some clues so we could try to guess the name. Well, we did guess it! She didn't tell us we had guessed, but she did tell her husband and he was none too happy about it. Anyway, all this to say I would love to know the name of your sweet baby boy and I promise to make no comment positive or negative. :)
