The key to learning?

Repetition, repetition, repetition.

That's what we say in karate class - especially when we're going over the same "boring" punch again and the white belts seem antsy. But it's true, and I was recently reminded of that in a completely different setting.

I usually give Aubrey her last bottle at night and put her in bed. This is about the only time she's still and quiet, so I take the time to talk to her. I've been talking to her about Jesus. I'll tell her the basics of the gospel - she's a sinner but Christ took the penalty and offers her new life. Or I'll discuss a point from the recent sermon at church. Or I'll talk about God and His character and what He is like. Or I'll just tell a Bible story.

I don't know how much she gets out of it, but I've found that I've gotten a lot out of it. I grew up in a church where teaching and Biblical knowledge was prized, and I know all the Sunday school answers. But as I tell it to Aubrey, I'm reminded afresh what God has done for me. How boundless His grace is. How undeserving I am. I've even found myself thinking about these things at other times in my day.

Thanks for the lesson, Aubrey.
