Thoughts on feeling the baby move

One week from today is THE day! Ok, I'll try not to be annoying about that. I won't mention it again. ;-)

Over the last couple of day I have been feeling little kicks. Anytime I have felt anything in my stomach for the past couple of weeks, I have wondered if it is the baby. But lately I am pretty sure that is has to be the baby. It feels like lots of little bubbles popping in my stomach. I don't know how else to describe it. If any of you are thinking that it's probably just gas bubbles, it's NOT! I think I am able to tell the difference! ;-) I never really felt the little "flutters" that everyone says you feel. My doctor's nurse said she never felt flutters either though. I guess its different for everyone.

When I feel these little sensations, its amazing to think, "That's a little person inside of me. That's my child!" The thought that I have a baby inside of me still stops me in my tracks sometimes. It's just such a miracle! I was telling David about the little kicks that I have been feeling, and he said that obviously he can not even imagine what it would be like to have someone inside of him. I said a couple months ago, neither could I! Sometimes I still can't. Everyday is a learning experience.

I can't wait until the baby is a little bigger and more active. It will be fun to be able to feel him (or her) move around all day long. One reason the little movements are so exciting is because I feel like its a way for the baby to sort of "communicate" with the outside world. I can't wait until the kicks are hard enough for David to be able to feel them! It will be his first actual contact with our child. That will be a great experience.

Well, I think that is enough rambling for now. Maybe the next time I post, it will be to tell you if the baby is a boy or girl!! Unless, of course, something interesting develops between now and then. :-)

In my Child Development textbook it says that pregnant women often say the sensation is like goldfish swimming in your belly.

Is that a good description?

Yeah, I think goldfish swimming in your belly is a good description. Although, I have never had any fish swim in my belly, so I'm not 100% sure. Haha. Maybe if a goldfish was swimming and bumped up against the side of your belly, that's what it would feel like. A soft, little bump.

i felt tiny flutters with carter but more bumping and knocking with addie. she was so cool -- i would tell her i needed her to move for me and she would move. what a miracle it is to carry a person inside of you! it makes me a little sad that i'll never do it again, but there is a season for everything...
